Data Analysis AWS Data Lake

image-description

Overview What we accomplished.

  • Built an integrated data platform
  • Implemented a robust governance operating model
  • Created a tool to help analyze data to advance equity and inclusion

Challenge & Scope Developing a secure and robust data integration solution.

A division of the mayoral office in a major metropolitan area needed to create an integrated data platform. This division is devoted to the expansion of economic opportunities. To accomplish their goal, the division works to facilitate innovative product development and cross-agency data sharing, making it more convenient for residents to access the resources and support they need.

To advance equity and inclusion due to the negative impacts of COVID-19 on communities of color, the client needed to expand their data sets to analyze and identify systemic factors driving disproportionate outcomes, evaluate policy proposals meant to alleviate adverse effects, and develop evidence-based programs that support an equitable recovery. Effectively collecting, storing, and analyzing this data in a collaborative manner required a secure and robust data integration solution.

Solution Integrated data platform via Data Lake on Amazon Web Services.

PruTech created an integrated data platform and shared workspace for cross-agency initiatives to collect, catalog, and research data sets from various agencies into an Amazon Web Services (AWS) Data Lake instance. Using AWS services, PruTech migrated an existing front-end tool (IntelliMatch) to a front-end web-based application using open-source software, delivering a single access point to load data to an AWS Data Lake.

The solution was also able to process data through their current Master Data Management application (a platform by the company CCI) and analyze data in the AWS Data Lake using AWS Athena.

Result A collaborative platform to promote equity, inclusion, and opportunity.

The client’s new data integration platform connected users with the data that helped them create or contribute to research for reducing inequality and promoting economic opportunity. This shared workspace enabled a robust governance model that ensured the appropriate review, authorization, and the analysis of the data. The platform also provided support to both virtual and physical locations where data is managed, queried or analyzed, boosting the division’s ability to assist residents directly affected by the pandemic.

Ultimately, PruTech’s AWS Data Lake solution succeeded in cultivating a robust network of collaborative, equity-based research across the client’s city of operation.
