Cloud Migration In-house Orchestration Layer

image-description

Overview What we accomplished.

  • Successful cloud migration of on-prem apps
  • Maximized cloud infrastructure benefits
  • Reduced cloud operational costs

Challenge & Scope Maximizing the benefits of cloud infrastructure.

A health insurance company needed help transferring all their on-premises applications to the cloud. As one of the largest health insurance providers in the nation, the company specializes in care delivery and health plan administration, offering a new kind of integrated care that improves health and well-being at lower costs.

To migrate their homegrown and off-the-shelf applications, the company sought a deployment strategy capable of maximizing the benefits of cloud infrastructure while significantly reducing operational costs. Any solution had to be aligned with their multi-cloud strategy by providing support for all major cloud providers—Azure, AWS, and Google.

Solution Comprehensive suite of cloud migration services.

PruTech’s team came aboard to build several solutions to meet the company’s cloud infrastructure goals.

The main piece of software built was an in-house orchestration layer that accepts parameters from developers and then determines the target cloud environment based on built-in rules. The team also designed and implemented a custom solution to deploy applications as CI/CD pipeline using Github actions on AKS cluster and multiple tools like Docker and Kubernetes.

To meet the deployment demands of the new system, PruTech also re-architected applications to meet deployment needs by utilizing microservices architectural patterns, parameterizing the configurations and performing other necessary actions. Additionally, the team aligned the application development process with the release process.

Result Successful cloud migration and improved application deployment.

PruTech’s enhanced cloud strategy introduced the client to a level of automation that greatly reduced deployment delays, manual errors, and operational costs. Advanced automated CI/CD pipelines enabled developers to create tools for Azure resources. With little to no manual intervention required to recreate these resources, the company experienced almost no issues related to incorrect configuration and set up at the infrastructural level.

Additionally, the in-house orchestration layer was compliant with enterprise guidelines around cloud cost for multiple environments, delivering far better control on cloud sizing. The ability to enable the creation of resources in any geographic region according to cost or failover requirements also led to impressive savings.

Overall, PruTech’s code terraforming solutions gave the client the operational efficiency they needed to continue to be one of the country’s top advocates for effective and affordable health care.
